How to Get 1,000 Monthly Website Visitors

Traffic is one of the most important factors to consider when you’re looking to improve your website’s performance. You can’t sell your offers or increase revenue for your online business if you’re not getting eyes on your site.

But traffic is also one of the most common problems I see in small businesses when they come to me for web design support. Many small businesses have a hard time driving in enough traffic to grow a profitable website.

Over 50% of small business websites receive less than 500 visits per month!

If you’re reading this thinking 500 visits per month seems like a lot, just know that you’re not alone. When I started my business, it took me well over a year of trial and error and consistent effort to finally reach the 1,000 monthly visitors mark.

πŸ“ˆ … but it doesn’t have to take that long, or be that difficult for you! In this post, I’m going to share with you everything you need to know about website traffic and how to drive more traffic to your website to finally reach one thousand visitors a month… and beyond!

How many visitors should a small business website get?

Website traffic varies depending on what your business is like. Size, model, and industry all play factors in what determines a β€œgood” monthly traffic number.

For small service based businesses, aiming for 1,000 monthly visitors is a great place to start- that’s a lot of eyes on your website!

But you also need to consider the quality of that traffic- meaning are these people your ideal clients? Are they actually going to sign up for your services, or will they leave your site right away?

Just remember that while traffic is important, it is not the be-all end-all of your website’s performance. Converting that traffic is just as essential- it doesn’t really matter if 1,000 people land on your website if they have no interest in working with you.

Why isn't my website getting traffic?

One of the most common misconceptions I see around getting website traffic is that many business owners think that when you click β€œpublish” and launch your new site out into the world, that you’ll immediately start seeing visitors flooding in.

However, just because you have a website doesn’t mean anyone knows it exists… you have to work to start driving in new traffic.

Again, this is why traffic and strategic design go hand-in-hand. You could have a beautiful, high converting website, but without traffic, you won’t book clients. On the flip side, you could have thousands of visitors to your site every month, but without a website strategized to convert, you’ll never bring in any leads.

I know that working for your website traffic might not sound like the most glamorous entrepreneurial task, but your website is a marketing tool, and should be treated as such. Even though you’ve invested in launching a beautiful site designed to convert, this doesn’t mean that you can kick your feet back and forget about it (although it does make everything else feel much easier in the long run). Your website should be maintained like a well oiled machine. Consistent maintenance and promotion will get your traffic to that 1,000 visitor mark.

How can I get 1,000 website visitors per month?

There is no one-size -fits-all method to drive your website traffic to 1,000 visitors/month. Your business is unique, and so if your marketing, so this can happen through several different avenues. I strongly recommend diversifying your marketing platforms so that you are driving in traffic through several different platforms.

  1. Drive traffic from Social Media

The first way to increase your website traffic is through social media.

Make sure you’re sharing consistently on your chosen platform(s), whether that be through Instagram, Facebook, or Tiki Tok. Sharing consistent content build a know, like, trust relationship with your audience making them want to learn more about you and check out your website.

You’ll also want to optimize your social media profile for website conversion. Make sure you include a link in your bio that goes directly to your website. I also recommend posting at least one post a week with a direct call to action that leads your audience back to your website. This CTA can direct them to your blog, services, or booking page.

  2. Drive traffic from Email Marketing

Another great way to increase traffic to your website is through email marketing. Be sure to be sending valuable, content rich emails that make your audience want to go to your website to learn more.

Just like with social media marketing, be sure you are sharing content that will drive them back to your website (through blogs, sharing about services, or a book page).

Don’t forget to share a link directly to your site in the header or footer of every email so your audience can easily find your website. Also include 1-3 CTA’s directing them back to your website in every email.

  3. Drive traffic with Pinterest Marketing

Pinterest can be a powerful tool to drive traffic to your website (it’s actually become my #1 source of traffic for my own site!).

The thing that I personally love about Pinterest is that it’s not a social media platform- it’s technically a search engine, making it easy for your ideal clients to find you through visual content.

To get started with Pinterest marketing, you’ll want to get a basic understanding for SEO and keywords, and start by posting at least one Pin a day. Be sure to include links for each pin that direct your traffic back to a corresponding blog post, podcast episode, or offer.

  4. SEO

SEO is the practice of optimizing your website to be found easily through search engine results. This is how potential clients can find on Google or other search engines.

Check out Squarespace’s SEO Checklist to make sure that your site is optimized to be found in search engine results.

  5. Drive traffic from a Blog, Pocast, or Youtube Channel

If you are sharing content about your business with a blog, podcast, or Youtube channel, be sure you are optimizing each platform to drive traffic back to your website.

  6. Blog

Since your blog is likely already hosted on your website, in this instance you’re not focusing on driving traffic back to your site, but optimizing your blog to attract more traffic.

A few ways to do this are by optimizing your blog for SEO, and ensuring that your sharing your blog through all marketing platforms including email marketing, social media, and Pinterest.

  7. Podcast and Youtube

Since your podcast or Youtube channel are hosted on platforms off of your website, you’ll want to be sure that you use CTA’s in each episode to drive traffic back to your site. You can also add links to your website in the show notes for listeners to connect with you on your website.
