5 Organic Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website

Launching a new website opens up so many new possibilities for your business- but only if people are actually coming to your website…

…and now that you have a beautiful new site that you can’t wait to show off to the world, you’ll need to make sure you have plenty of traffic coming in so that you can build brand awareness and get quality visitors who can convert to paying clients.

This is why it’s so important to consider how you plan on driving organic traffic to your site from the moment you launch.

One of the most common misconceptions I see about getting website traffic is that many entrepreneurs believe that when you click β€œpublish” and launch your new site out into the world that you’ll immediately start seeing visitors flooding in… however, just because you have a website doesn’t mean anyone knows it exists. You have to put in a little work and marketing effort to start driving in new traffic and make sure that you’re getting eyes on your site.

What is β€œorganic website traffic”?

β€œOrganic traffic” are the website visits you receive without paying for ads- they just come organically. A great monthly traffic number to shoot for for a small service based business is 1,000 visits. You may not see this number immediately after your launch- but with consistent dedication to a few of these traffic driving techniques, you could see your monthly visitors jump to 1,000 (and beyond) in just a matter of months!

In this post you’ll find five tried-and-true marketing techniques you can use to start driving more traffic to your website after launch. I recommend starting out by choosing 2-3 techniques to use consistently for at least three months to get started, and then build from there.

Tracking your efforts

First and foremost, you absolutely need to track and understand your website's analytics in order to start driving more traffic to your site.

Tracking your analytics helps you see your growth and understand what marketing tactics are working to keep up with your website goals. I recommend starting by tracking the number of visits, as well as tracking where those clicks are coming from (direct links, social media, Pinterest, or Google).

Squarespace has easy to use analytics features built right into their platform, so you can check these numbers in just a couple of minutes. If you don't use Squarespace, you can create a Google Analytics account to track these numbers too.

How to Drive Organic Traffic to Your Website

1. Share consistently on social media

Make sure you’re sharing content consistently on your chosen platform(s), whether that be through Instagram, Facebook, or Tik Tok. Sharing consistent content builds a know, like, trust relationship with your audience making them want to learn more about you and check out your website.

You’ll also want to optimize your social media profile for website conversion. Make sure you include a link in your bio that goes directly to your website. It’s also great practice to use a β€œlinks page” built into your website rather than a β€œLinktree” or similar platform. Using a links page that is part of your site means that when followers click on your website link in your bio, they’re directed straight to your site and not an β€œin-between” platform, like linktree.

I also recommend posting at least one post a week with a direct call to action that leads your audience back to your website. This CTA can direct them to your blog, services, or booking page.

Sharing in your stories is also a great way to promote your website. You can use the link sticker to allow followers to be directed straight to your site from your stories. A few great ways to share regular content in your stories is through promoting weekly blog posts, podcasts, or youtube videos, sharing about a recent case study or testimonial, or highlighting a particular offer each week.

Lastly, use your story highlights to create a permanent space for followers to learn more about your offers. Include a link sticker on each offer to direct visitors to your services or booking page on your site.

2. Tap into the powers of Pinterest

Pinterest can be a powerful tool to drive traffic to your website (it’s actually become my #1 source of traffic for my own site!). The thing that I personally love about Pinterest is that it’s not a social media platform- it’s technically a search engine, making it easy for your ideal clients to find you through visual content.

To get started with Pinterest marketing, you’ll want start by posting at least one Pin a day. Be sure to include links for each pin that direct your traffic back to a corresponding blog post, podcast episode, offer, or freebie. Consistency is really key here. You’ll notice that Pinterest can often have a slow growth effect, where your Pins may take weeks or months to gain popularity- so don’t get frustrated if you don’t see results immediately.

Another way to optimize your Pinterest account is by setting up your profle name and bio. Be sure to use keywords that you ideal clients would be using to find you. Include a call to action and a link directly in your bio so that followers can easily connect with you on your website.

3. Start a blog

Blogging is a great way to improve your SEO, or search engine optimization, helping to drive more traffic to your site through search engine results.

This means you can start writing blog posts related to questions, problems, or desires that your ideal client would have about your industry or services. Be sure that your blog posts are centered around popular search terms that relate to your services. What are some questions your ideal clients might be googling when it comes to your offer? Be sure to include keywords directly in your site title. Optimizing your blog for SEO is going to increase your website’s chances of being found in Google search results.

Search engines also like to see that your website is being updated on a regular basis and posting on your blog every week does just this!

4. Share your website in your weekly emails

Another great way to increase traffic to your website is through email marketing. Be sure to be sending valuable, content rich emails that make your audience want to go to your website to learn more.

Just like with social media marketing, be sure you are sharing content that will drive them back to your website (through blogs, podcast episodes, youtibe videos, sharing about services, or a booking page). I recommend sharing at least one piece of content with a call to action each week that links back to your website.

Another way to optimize your emails to get more website clicks is to simply include a linked website URL in the header or footer of every email.

You can also add a β€œwork with me” section in the footer of every email with three different ways your audience can work with you. Be sure to include links to a service or booking page for each.

5. Optimize your website to be found in search engine results

SEO is the practice of optimizing your website to be found easily through search engine results. This is how potential clients can find on Google or other search engines.

Be sure to write an interesting site description, page descriptions, and alt-text descriptions for your images using relevant keywords.

A keyword is a word or phrase that your ideal customer would type into their search engine when looking for a service or product that you provide. Keywords can appear in your site description, page descriptions, image alt text, and throughout your website copy. Keywords can be short and simple, 1-2 word phrases (short tail keywords), or longer and descriptive (longtail keywords).

There are many more ways that you can improve your SEO beyond your page setup and keyword use. This can be a powerful way to build site traffic and book highly aligned clients and there is always opportunities for growth and improvement.
