How to Understand Squarespace Analytics
One of my favorite things about using Squarespace as my go-to website platform for clients is it’s incredible analytics features.
Squarespace has an entire tab in the main menu of their website dedicated to tracking important analytics that can help you drive more traffic to your website and even convert more of that traffic into paying clients.
The problem is that you can look at these numbers and graphs as many times as you like, but they’ll mean nothing to you unless you understand what they mean and how to use them to improve your marketing tactics.
In this post I’m going to review the most important features of your Squarespace analytics page. This post will cover not only what these numbers mean, but how you can read this information to help your business grow in ways like:
Driving more traffic to your website.
Connecting with more of your dream clients on your website.
Deciphering what content is performing the best on your website along with other social media and marketing platforms.
Strategizing how to convert more of your traffic into paying clients.

1. Traffic
Traffic is the number of people who visit your website.
With Squarespace traffic analytics, you can set metrics to see the amount of traffic over any period of time, whether it be a day, week, month, or year.
Traffic can help you understand how your marketing efforts are working.
Did traffic peak for you during that Pinterest campaign? What about the popular Instagram post from last month?
It’s important to study your traffic regularly to check for correlations between the type of content you're sharing and the amount of people who are visiting your website.
2. Engagement
The engagement metric you see in your Squarespace Analytics measures how well your audience is engaging with your content and how easy it is for them to navigate your website.
These measurement tools can tell you how long your visitors spend on each page, which pages visitors are most often exiting your site from, and your bounce rate (which is the percentage of visitors who leave your site right away).
These measurements can be helpful because they can tell you where you have dead ends in your sales funnel, how well your homepage is capturing your audience’s attention, and which pages are most engaging to your audience.
You can decipher from this information which pages are performing well and which pages need some nurturing.
3. Keywords
Keywords are the words your web visitors are typing into their search consoles that lead them to your website.
This is a direct measurement of SEO and keywords are a great metric to study so that you can improve your website’s SEO plan.
Keywords help to understand why your visitors are finding you.
You can decipher which pages are most easily found through Google by seeing what keywords are most used to find your website.
Maybe visitors are finding you through a specific blog post you’ve written, or a specific service you offer- you can tell by the keywords that are most commonly searched.
This helps to tell what is working in your website copy and SEO plan and also where you could make adjustments.
Next Steps
Understanding your Squarespace Analytics page is an essential place to start tracking your website and business performance.
Now that you know how to read and understand Squarespace analytics, I strongly suggest creating a marketing tracker for your business. Your marketing tracker should include important metrics for each of your marketing platforms that you track weekly.
For example, my marketing tracker includes metrics from my Pinterest account, Instagram, my website, and my email list.
This is a great way for you to watch your business grow and thrive overtime. It also helps you see where there are inconsistencies or where your business may need some more nurturing.
